Introducing Br Marc, our Preacher for Holy Week

Hello everyone! My name’s Marc and I’m really excited to be joining you during Holy Week this year as we commemorate our Lord’s Passion and death and await the glorious hope of the resurrection on Easter Day.

For the last 8 years, I have been a brother of the Community of the Resurrection in Mirfield West Yorkshire, which is where I first met your curate Joseph; we did some studies together, discovered we had a mutual friend – the church is a small place – and embarked on at least two runs per week during a good spell! I am delighted to be sharing some ministry with the  Revds. Lucy and Joseph, coming to St Andrew’s as I am in the capacity both of a brother and also as an ordinand on parish-placement, sponsored for priestly ministry by the Diocese of Leeds. I am currently reading for an MA in theology and Ministry at Cranmer Hall, Durham and hope to be ordained deacon in June 2025.

My background is in education, having worked with secondary-aged young people for ten years as a Teaching Assistant. I have a degree in linguistics and literature (York), and a BA in theological studies from the University of Sheffield. In the community at Mirfield, I have worked as the infirmarian, caring for brothers in sickness, as well as leading our brothers in singing the daily offices. I enjoy reading, running, watching television and singing. I once won karaoke in Gran Canaria with a rendition of Bruce Springsteen’s Dancing in the Dark, so my interests are not purely in Gregorian chant!

It will be so good to meet and talk with you over Passiontide and Holy Week and I look forward to it greatly. In the meantime, be ready with your questions and pray for me as I shall be praying for you in our approach to this week of weeks in all that it will hold before us.

God bless and keep you all,

In Christ,

Marc
